Meet Bryana
Bryana Kappadakunnel is a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist (90464), an Infant-Family Early Childhood Mental Health Specialist, and a Perinatal Mental Health Specialist-Certified. Since 2011, Bryana has worked exclusively with families with very young children to navigate challenges related to child development, ADHD, behavioral and emotional issues, attachment problems, and trauma. Her approach to therapy is unique in that she works primarily with parents by helping them discover the underlying meaning beneath their child’s behavior. In this process, parents also deconstruct their own childhood experiences, and learn how their childhood impacts the way they understand and relate to their children. Parents are guided to develop critical skills in self-reflection, allowing them to break familial cycles of guilt and shame, all of which drastically shifts the child-parent relational patterns.
Bryana also works with new moms experiencing perinatal mood or anxiety disorders. She uses a conscious- and mindfulness-informed approach to help moms realign their expectations with reality, deconstruct the guilt and shame they’re experiencing, and shift into the present moment, where depression and anxiety cannot exist.
Bryana is also the author of Parent Yourself First, a no-nonsense guide that shows you how to become a great parent (even if you didn’t have one.) Parent Yourself First is published by Putnam (Penguin Random House), and releases on January 28th, 2025.
Bryana earned a Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology from Pepperdine University in 2013, has been licensed since 2015. She has an extensive number of advanced certifications and specializations in perinatal, infant, and early childhood mental health, and continues to invest in her professional growth through continuing her education. She is also the mother of 2 children, a Pittsburgh native, and calls South Torrance home.
As the creator and voice behind Conscious Mommy, Bryana offers an online membership program for parents of children birth-12 years old who are seeking a supportive, non-judgmental, community to become better, more effective parents. The Conscious Mommy Community is open for all parents who may not be in need of therapy, but want weekly live classes, monthly group coaching, and an entire library of videos and downloadable resources to support them along their parenting journey.
